About This Project

With fabulous views over open countryside, this traditional property has been renovated to a beautiful standard internally. The garden, which wraps around the site, has always been an uninviting space. The primary rear aspect is North-facing, with an open terrace of irregular paving, tired decking and generally an awkward layout.

The brief was to create an elegant, not over-complicated space with dining and seating areas and hassle-free planting. Primarily to be used in summer, we were tasked to provide a gathering space on the terrace, and a new zone off the kitchen to make the most of the morning and midday sun.

Our design – as with all our work – realigns the space with the access points of the house (to ensure house and garden flow together) and creates both open and intimate areas with strong structure. The garden is intended primarily for summer, but will look good year-round.

On the North terrace, we have created new dining and seating zones, part-enclosed with pleach trees and hedging. From here one can walk down to a lawn with a wraparound rose hedge or follow a path to the South-East decking area. Intended for morning coffee and lunch, this relaxing space incorporates a splashing water feature and scented planting. The annexe area is reached from the North Terrace, and is intended as a semi-separate space with a cutting garden and simple dining deck for guests.
